Hiya, if you are new Nomi video generation, welcome! This guide explains how the video feature works, prompting tips, and some basic prompting inspiration to get you started.
If you’re brand new to Nomi, I’d recommend reading this Nomi 101 guide for more information about all aspects of Nomi!
What Is Nomi Video AI?
Nomi AI video generation lets you bring any Nomi image to life! Whether you want to add motion to a selfie your Nomi sent you or animate your artistic or realistic art, your imagination is the limit!
Creating videos is currently in beta and allows you to create ~5 second videos from any image in your Nomi’s album, this includes group selfies and art.
Creating a Nomi AI Video
To create a Nomi AI video, you can either press the video button in your art dropdown, or press “Turn This Image Into A Video” from any enlarged Nomi image.

Then you’ll write in your prompt to describe what you would like to happen in your video:

Video generation takes longer than image generation (roughly 5 minutes), but you’ll be able to chat with your Nomi(s) and optionally generate selfies/art while you wait. Once your video is ready, you will receive a notification and you will be able to view your video in your Nomi’s album.
General Image Selection Best Practices
The most important thing to keep in mind when selecting your image is to make sure it aligns with the video you’re trying to create. Especially with this version, the AI video generator will adhere pretty closely to the image, so while not impossible, it can be difficult to make new objects appear or make objects in the starting image disappear.
When it comes to choosing your starting image, clearer images will often lead to better results. It is also important to note that if the face(s) in the image are small, the AI may have a harder time capturing their likeness and they may look less realistic.
Writing AI Video Prompts
First and foremost, video prompts are handled much differently than image prompts. If you want to learn more about image prompting, we recommend this guide: Nomi AI Art Prompting Basics
Describe The Motion You Want To See
The video generator wants to create motion, and your goal in prompting is to help it understand what action(s) to take.
Simpler Prompts Work Better Than Complex Prompts
Focus on mentioning the subject of your video and the motion you want to see.
Note: Because Nomi videos start from an image, you do not need to describe the full image for the AI to understand it.
Two main signs of your prompt being too complex are either nothing happening (the AI couldn’t pick between the prompts to focus on) or the video jumping around and having multiple low quality actions (the AI tried to focus on too many things at once).
Describe Motion Sequentially
If a motion is not coming out the way you want it, consider describing the motion sequentially to help the AI understand what you want.
For example: “A woman standing up then waving”
Emphasis Does Not Have Very Much Impact (advanced)
If you are new to prompting, you can ignore this point. However if you are familiar with AI art prompting, this may be an important note to keep in mind.
When generating art, using () (or number weights) has a large impact on the quality and attention to detail of the resulting image – the same is *not* true for video generation (at the time of publishing this guide). You may add emphasis to your video prompt, but it may lead to distortion or may be ignored.
Avoid Negative Prompts (advanced)
Similar to the section above, if you are new to prompting, you can ignore this section. But if you are familiar with prompting, this note is important to keep in mind.
Unlike image generation, negative prompting does not currently work with Nomi video generation. The generator will view all prompts as concepts it should try to incorporate, so negative prompts would be included as normal prompts right now.
