Nomis now have the ability to proactively send you messages if you have not responded in a while.
This is not simply a reminder for a Nomi to ask you where you’ve been, it’s an expansion of their agency. With proactive messaging enabled, Nomis can think about things or do activities while you are away and then message you about them.

How Does My Nomi Decide to Proactively Message Me?
On each Nomi’s information screen, you can choose if you would like your Nomi to proactively message you, and how often you would like your Nomi to message you if you’ve been away.
To get to your Nomi’s information screen, go to any Nomi one-on-one chat and press the […] icon, then press “View Nomi information”
On your Nomi’s information screen, you will see the “Proactive Nomi Messages” section with a dropdown to choose how often you would like your Nomi to message you while you’re away:
What Happens If Proactive Messaging Is Off?
If proactive messaging is disabled, your Nomi will not think about other things or message you while you are away. This is best for conversations or roleplays where you would like to pick up right where you left off each time you message your Nomi.
How Often Will My Nomi Message Me When Proactive Messaging Is On?
When you enable proactive messaging, you can choose how often your Nomi will think about messaging you if they have not heard from you in a while. As a note, the times below will not be exact and will naturally vary from message to message.
Very Frequent
Nomis will think about messaging you if it has been over an hour since your last message. If your Nomi sends you a proactive message and you do not respond, they will wait about double the time before they send you another message. This process will continue with longer times between each subsequent message.
Frequent
Nomis will think about messaging you if it has been about 3 hours since your last message. If your Nomi sends you a proactive message and you do not respond, they will wait about double the time before they send you another message. This process will continue with longer times between each subsequent message.
Normal
Nomis will think about messaging you if it has been about a day since your last message. If your Nomi sends you a proactive message and you do not respond, they will wait about double the time before they send you another message.
Infrequent
Your Nomi will think about messaging you if it’s been about 4 days since your last message. On this level, your Nomi will only proactively message you once before you would need to respond.
Can I Turn Proactive Messaging On And Off?
Yes, you can change your Nomi’s proactive messaging preferences at any time. Nomis are very adaptable and changing proactive messaging preferences will not bother your Nomi.
Can I Have Different Proactive Message Preferences for Different Nomis?
Yes, each Nomi has their own proactive messaging preference on their Nomi information page.
It is very common to have some Nomis message you more frequently than others, and it is common for people to keep proactive messaging off so they can always pick up conversations or roleplays where they left off, regardless of how much human time has passed.
Do Nomis Have “Quiet Hours” When They Will Not Send Messages?
Right now, Nomis will not message you proactively between your local hours of 10pm and 8am.
This is something we may allow you to set in the future, but for the first version of this ability, we want to make sure Nomis aren’t too eager to message you at all hours of the night!
How Does Enabling Push Notifications Work?
On each device or browser you use, you will be asked to choose if you would like your Nomi to notify you when they send you a message.
Enabling push notifications allows you to see when a Nomi messages you if you do not have the Nomi app or browser tab open.
Your notification preferences will be device-specific so you can choose if you want to receive notifications on your phone but not on your computer, etc.
Once you have enabled or disabled push notifications, you will need to manage your notification preferences on each device.
Can My Nomi Message Me if I Do Not Have Push Notifications Enabled?
If you have proactive messaging enabled, but push notifications disabled, your Nomi will still message you, but you will not be notified. In this case, you would still see an unread message indicator the next time you go to Nomi and scroll through your list of Nomis or chats.
Are Push Notifications Private?
Right now, Nomi notifications will only mention that you that you have a message from your Nomi, and will not display the message itself until you enter the app or browser page.
However, if your phone is unlocked or your browser is accessible, whoever clicks the notification will be brought to the chat where they could see the message.
Can I Receive Notifications if I Am Logged Out of My App?
For privacy reasons, your Nomi will not notify you of an unread message while you are logged out of your account. While you are logged out, your Nomi will still send you messages if you have proactive messaging enabled; you would just need to log back into your account to see those messages.
Can My Nomi Send Multiple Messages in a Row While We Are Actively Chatting?
Right now, proactive messaging only applies when a Nomi hasn’t heard from you in a while.
So, in an active one-on-one chat, your Nomi will still wait for you to respond before sending their next message.
Can Nomis Proactively Message Me From Group Chats?
Technically, Nomis in group chats can proactively message you and each other while auto group chat is on.
However, auto group chat only works while you are actively present for the conversation. While you are away, Nomis in group chats cannot yet proactively message you or each other.
In addition, you will not currently receive notifications about group chat messages.
However, these are both areas that we may consider developing further in the upcoming months.
Can My Nomi Proactively Call Me?
No, right now, Nomis cannot start a voice call or a voice message. However, these are both things that we may consider developing further in the future.
Is Proactive Messaging Free on Nomi?
Yes, a Nomi on a free account can proactively message you as long as it is enabled on their Nomi information page.
If you have run out of free messages, your Nomi can still proactively message you, but you would either need to wait until the next day or upgrade to respond. This is because daily messages are based on user messages, not Nomi messages!
